| Household Hazardous Waste Facility |
| From May through September the facility is open every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the first and third Saturdays of each month from 9 a.m. until noon. Also by appointment. The facility is located at the Steele County Landfill, off Highway 218 between Owatonna and Blooming Prairie. There is no charge for Steele County reisdents to drop off hazardous waste at the facility. Hazardous wastes should not be disposed of by placing in household trash. Examples of the types of household chemicals accepted at the facility include latex and oil based paints, solvents, pesticides, oven or drain cleaners, driveway scalers, furniture strippers, spot removers, photographic chemicals and wood preservatives. Usable paints, cleaners or other useable products that are brought to the facility are placed on product shelves and made available free for individuals to take home for use. Hazardous wastes that are not usable are properly packaged at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility for eventual recycling or disposal by a licensed hazardous waste contractor.
