| REVEGETATION *Seed, sod, or mulch bare soil as soon as possible after disturbance. PRESERVING EXISTING VEGETATION *Wherever possible, preserve existing trees, shrubs, and other vegetation. *To prevent root damage, do not grade, place soil piles, or park vehicles near trees marked for preservation. *Place plastic mesh or snow fence barriers around trees to protect the area below the branches. WARNING! Extra measures may be needed if your site: >Is within 300 ft. of a river or stream >Is within 1,000 ft. of a lake >Is steep (slopes of 18% or more) >Received runoff from adjacent land >Has more than 5,000 square ft. of disturbed ground. III Implementation-Prior to the start of earthwork activities, the permittee must have in place and functional, the erosion controls as outlined on the approved erosion control plan. Additional erosion controls may be required as directed by the City of Medford. No earth moving activities shall commence until the erosion controls have been field inspected and approved by the City of Medford. IV Financial Security-Each permittee shall be required to post a $500 deposit at the time of receiving the building permit. This deposit will be held by the City to ensure that the permittee follows all provision of the City's Erosion Control Policy. If there is an insufficient amount of cash deposited to cover the costs incurred by the City, the City may assess the remaining amount against the property. As a condition of the permit, the owner shall waive notice of any assessment hearing to be conducted by the City, concur that the benefit to the property exceeds the amount of the proposed assessment, and waive all rights by virtue of Minnesota Stature 429.081 to challenge the amount or validity of assessment. V Violation-Properties in violation of the city policy will be notified with a Notice of Violation. The notice will describe the actions that need to be performed to get the property back into conformance. The items will need to be addressed within 48 hours of the date on the notice, or a Stop Work Order will be issued and mitigative action may be taken by the City. All costs incurred will be deducted from the property's erosion control escrow, including a fee of $20 for each reinspection of the property that is required. Security deposited (remaining balance only) with the City for faithful performance of the erosion control work and necessary remedial work shall be released after ground cover has been successfully established. In addition, all erosion control measures must also be removed prior to the release of the remaining security balance. ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON MAY 14, 2002. |

| I Purpose-The City of Medford is committed to maintaining erosion controls for residential building or construction sites, not including building additions, remodeling, etc., to protect the safety of the citizens of Medford. II Policy-The City of Medford requires erosion controls for residential construction sites in the city by using the following: STRAW BALES OR SILT FENCE (Silt fence is preferred method) *Put up before any other work is done. *Install within 2 feet of the property line. *Install on downslope side(s) of site with ends extended up sideslopes a short distance. *Place parallel to the contour of the land to allow water to pond behind the fence. *Entrench 4 inches deep. *Stake (2 stakes per bale OR 1 stake every 3 feet of silt fence) *Leave no gaps between sections of silt fence. *Inspect daily and after every 1/2 in. rain fall. Remove sediment if deposits reach half the fence height. *Maintain until turf is established. SOIL PILES *Locate away from any downslope street, driveway, stream. Lake, wetland, ditch, or drainageway. ROCK CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE *Install a single access drive using Class V aggregate or 1 1/2"/3" crushed limestone. *Lay gravel to a minimum depth of 6 in. deep and a minimum of 12 ft. wide from the foundation to the street (or 50 feet minimum length. *Use to prevent the traking of loose materials by all vehicles. *Maintain through construction. SEDIMENT CLEANUP *By the end of each work day, sweep or scrape up soil tracked onto the road or sidewalk. *By the end of the next work day after a storm, clean up soil washed off-site. DOWNSPOUT EXTENDERS *Not required, but highly recommended. *Install as soon as gutters and downspouts are completed. *Route water to a grassed or paved area. *Maintain until a lawn is established. |
